VITAMINS

Vitamins are substances which are needed in small quantities to sustain life. You can usually get all your vitamins from the foods you eat. In some cases, you may need to take a daily vitamin medicine for optimal health but avoid high doses of some vitamins because it can make you sick. There are currently 13 recognized vitamins.
Vitamins listed are :

Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B7, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K.

Vitamin A :

Deficiency: may cause night-blindness and keratomalacia (eye disorder).

Good sources liver, cod liver oil, carrot,sweet potato, butter, spinach etc.

Vitamin B1 :

Deficiency: may cause beriberi, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.

Good sources: yeast, pork, cereal grains, sunflower seeds, cauliflower, potatoes, oranges and eggs.

Vitamin B2 :

Deficiency: may cause ariboflavinosis.

Good sources: bananas, persimmons, okra, chard, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, eggs, fish and green beans.

Vitamin B3 :

Deficiency: may cause pellagra.

Good sources: chicken, beef, fish (tuna, salmon), milk, eggs etc.

Vitamin B5 :

Deficiency: may cause paresthesia.

Good sources: meats, whole grains, broccoli, avocados, royal jelly, fish ovaries etc.

Vitamin B6 :

Deficiency: may cause anemia.

Good sources: meats, bananas, whole grains, vegetables and nuts etc.

Vitamin B7 :

Deficiency: may cause dermatitis.

Good sources egg yolk, liver, some vegetables etc.

Vitamin B9 :

Deficiency: may cause pregnancy deficiency linked to birth defects.

Good sources: leafy vegetables, legumes, liver, baker’s yeast, some fortified grain products, sunflower seeds etc.

Vitamin B12 :

Deficiency: may cause megaloblastic anemia.

Good sources: fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, dairy products etc.

Vitamin C :

Deficiency: may cause megaloblastic anemia.

Good sources: fruit and vegetables. The highest vitamin C is in Kakadu plum fruit.

Vitamin D :

Deficiency: may cause rickets.

Good sources: fatty fish, eggs, beef liver and mushrooms.

Vitamin E :

Deficiency: may cause mild hemolytic anemia in newborns.

Good sources: kiwi fruit, almonds, avocado, eggs, milk, nuts, leafy green vegetables etc.

Vitamin K :

Deficiency: may cause bleeding diathesis.

Good sources: leafy green vegetables, avocado, kiwi fruit and parsley etc.
